During inverted nipple correction surgery, a small incision is made either side of the base of the nipple under local anaesthetic. This allows the release of ducts causing the nipple inversion, and enabling the nipple to project outward. Then 2 local flaps of dermis are tucked behind the nipple to block the restoration of the ducts and try to prevent recurrence of the nipple inversion.
The procedure typically lasts about an hour, and stitches are used to secure the new nipple position. A dressing is applied post-surgery to protect the area and support healing using a sponge. After the procedure, patients can expect minor swelling and discomfort, which usually subsides within a few days.
