Upcoming trials at St Andrew’s Centre

Mr Griffith and his St Andrew’s research fellow Nitisha Narayan have been awarded a grant of £110,000 by Medtronic to run an independent, randomised, trial comparing 2 types of diathermy (cautery) machine used in surgery to seal bleeding vessels.

The new machine – the PlasmaBlade – works at lower temperatures and may cause less tissue damage and therefore aid the wound healing and recovery.

At St Andrew’s we are also trialling a new device called SPY, which helps us to assess the blood supply tissue we have transplanted for breast reconstruction.

Both trials will start at St Andrew’s Hospital, Essex in March 2016.
